Each Tuesday on Instagram, I highlight a children's book.

Because I absolutely love reading and we encourage our boys to enjoy reading. I hope to foster a good relationship with reading for them.

I also think it might be helpful to other parents to find out a little more about a book which they may enjoy reading with their own child.

Stories can transform you and take you own adventures- without even leaving your home. If you can encourage good reading habits when children are younger, it will set them up for a lifelong love of books and (I think) prepare them for future more formal education.

Mungo the Monkey

Have you met Mungo the monkey?

We have two books featuring Mungo the monkey, written and illustrated by Lydia Monks. She is the same lady who has illustrated many of Julia Donaldson books. Of which "What the ladybird heard" is one of our favs too.

Both books are colourfully illustrated and have many flaps to open and explore throughout the book where the reader has to find certain things. I think Big T in particular loves this interactive feature.

Martha Mumford Books

We actually have two books by the author Martha Mumford and Illustrator Laura Hughes. Both are wonderful additions to our book collection.

I recently purchased the "We're Going On A Treasure Hunt" book. I have to admit it is similar to the We're Going On Bear Hunt in tone but this time you are pirate rabbits and you are looking for the golden coin treasure.

I Love Mum

No one’s smile is wider or brighter than my mum’s smile.
No one makes me laugh like she does.
No one gives hugs the way she can.
In fact, it’s simple.
There’s just no one like mum.

Today I am looking at 3 different books on the theme of loving mum.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This is a children's picture book designed, illustrated, and written by Eric Carle, first published in 1969!! I had no idea this book was this old before doing this research.

The book features a caterpillar who eats his way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly.

The winner of many children's literature awards and a major graphic design award, it has sold almost 50 million copies worldwide.

Giraffes Can't Dance

Gerald wants nothing more than to go to the great Jungle Dance, but worries how he’ll fit in when he can’t do the two-step or the tango – after all, it’s a well known fact that giraffes can’t dance. However, a friendly cricket helps Gerald realise that he doesn’t have to conform to the dance styles of the rest of the jungle creatures – and letting yourself loose on the dance floor can be just as fun.

The friendly cricket encourages him to create his own unique dancing style and Gerald surprises everyone with his elegant movements.
